You must use the environment to your advantage, guiding Timmy to the key that will unlock the next area and then the exit door.
Moving platforms, rising water, and more will attempt to keep you from the treasure within the temple. Are you ready to brave all peril and help Timmy achieve his goal? Enter the temple via Newgrounds. This puzzle platformer puts a new spin on jumping challenges. You take control of the silhouette and guide them across levels, but you don’t control your jumps. Instead, your character will jump every time you reach a ledge. You must be exceptionally aware of your environment, running across arrows to reverse gravity, jumping on monsters to slay them and advance, and controlling the direction of your jumps with excellent precision as you guide the silhouette through levels and portals.
Helpful signs along the way offer hints and tips to help you advance. Jumphobia can be found on Newgrounds or Armor Games.
Take control of a dastardly Necromancer and help build his forces through the power of Clicks! In this click adventure, level up your necromancer and unlock zombie minions to deal more and more damage to various structures. Defeat the heroes sent by the Blacksmith’s Guild to advance levels and journey through a map of the kingdom.
As your monsters take down buildings and people, you earn skulls. Skulls, in turn, are used to level up your monsters or unlock new ones. Occasionally, a defeated foe will drop a scroll. Scrolls over you the chance to watch a second advertisement in order to earn boosts; these boosts can range from damage increase to skull multipliers.
Zombidle’s mechanics allow for passive and active gameplay. DPS minions allow you to leave the game for a while to earn skulls, but eventually your progression will cease when they meet a boss they cannot overcome, as boss battles have a time limit. You can also click to deal damage as your necromancer and speed up progress.
Are you ready to grow a horde and tear down a kingdom with your dark powers? You can start at Armor Games , or on Zombidle’s main site. As the player base increased, so, too, did those curious as to what, exactly, was a “Pokeyman. But with everything that grows popular, there is a foil: a parody. In the first scene, Billy is attempting to explain the concept of a rad new mobile game to his grandpa, but the older man simply does not understand the appeal. Unconcerned, Billy runs off to explore the area around his grandpa’s nursing home — leaving a phone with his grandpa.
Concerned for his daughter’s reaction if something were to happen while Billy was unsupervised, Grandpa heads out to find him. The trouble is, various obstacles stand in his way in the form of citizens who refuse to move unless he progresses to certain levels or catches certain “Pokeymans.
To play, Trainers control Grandpa as he moves around the map. Keep an eye on the phone screen to your right — as you near a Pokeyman, a colored square will appear. Grandpa must stand exactly on the square to see a Pokeyman; press the button to catch and move on.
Each critter in the game has a parodied name and style, as indicated by the “Reasonably Based Feller” on the screenshot above. It’s a game of Who’s That Pokemon?! If you want to escape the possible fate of being moved to a worse nursing home by finding Billy and keeping him safe, you can begin your journey on Newgrounds.
Not all games exist for pure amusement. Some are meant to provoke you, encourage you, or simply inform you. Once players capture an image, it is displayed and tagged on a monitor for all to see.
Everything that follows keeps up the wit and lightness of spirit. Gravity Bone is a story of espionage, assassination, double-crosses, thrilling chases, and it makes use of quick cuts and techniques borrowed from film in a way that’s still fresh now. Best of all, it’s funny.
There’s no dialogue, but chasing a thief down the length of a long dining table while glasses explode underfoot is a physical and visual set piece designed to make you chuckle. Released in , Samorost is a point-and-click adventure game that forgoes many of the normal trappings of the genre. There are no dialogue trees, no inventory items, and you don’t directly control its main character.
Instead you solve its puzzles by playfully clicking on scenery in order to discover the path forward, and the joy comes from the beauty, strangeness and gentle humour of that world. A world in which character’s inhabit planets built from tree roots, which can be travelled between by piloting soda can rocketships, and where progress might be achieved by getting a man stoned or by unfurling a proboscis into a tree’s mouth.
Samorost’s texture and pace is unusual, and it holds more in common with old, strange children’s fiction like the Moomins than it does the other games on this list. There have been two bigger, prettier sequels that you can buy, but the first Samorost game is still wonderful 12 years after its release, and you can play it for free in your browser right now. Spelunky isn’t just the best free game ever, it’s also probably, maybe definitely, the best platformer , and simply, best game ever. And it’s not because of its procedural level generation, or the mixture of permadeath and platforming that spawned a genre of imitators, but because of the design of its items, traps and enemies.
Spelunky is a tightly wound machine, precision-engineered to create moments of anticipation, drama and comedy. You’re stood upon a ledge looking down at two spike traps, a caveman and a man-eating plant. You know that you should drop calmly atop a spike trap, jump on to the other, and then over and away from plant and man. You make the leap and immediately overshoot it, missing the surface of the first spike trap and instead grabbing onto its side.
You are moments away from being spiked to instant death. You leap away from the spike trap just in time, but in your panic dive directly into the mouth of the waiting plant. You are dead. Spelunky doesn’t have the brighter high-definition art of its paid-for remake, Spelunky HD, nor its co-op or daily challenge modes. But it is still a masterclass of game design: a perfect loop of rules for creating infinite fun situations. Vlambeer are known today for Nuclear Throne. And Luftrausers.
And Ridiculous Fishing. But before they became the reigning kings of “game feel”, they proved their skill by releasing Super Crate Box, a free, single-screen shooter. It has two rules: one, enemies flow along platforms from top to bottom, and if they fall into the firepit at the end, they re-appear at the top in faster, angrier form; two, you score points by collecting the crates that drop at regular intervals, but each crate also randomly replaces your weapon.
These two rules, when combined, create a game which is frantic but tactical. You’ll be battling to keep the crowd under control, but while one moment your melee weapon will require you to get close, the next you’ll have a rocket launcher and be trying to keep out of the blast zone.
It’s an exhilarating score attack game – and yes, it feels great. The Sunday Papers. What are we all playing this weekend? The 26 best horror games on PC to play in Descenders is a fun mountain biking game wrapped in a bland roguelike.

Its story is dead stupid as if anyone played Doom for the story and its arenas grow stale a bit too early—I feel like the game runs out of surprises about two-thirds of the way through. Oh, and the multiplayer is terrible.
The sheer frenetic ballet of it all is pure adrenaline and instinct; its primal allure helped make even those weaker later levels thrilling, at least to me. Doomguy fist-bumps collectible action figures he stumbles across and smashes exposition-spouting computer terminals. Shut up, rock out, and reload that shotgun.
I dig it. Hayden : Going into , I was skeptical. It seemed like a disaster. Apparently miracles happen, though. Brad: Yeah, I was all too ready to hate Hitman when they announced the episodic release structure, since I hate episodic release structures.
But to my surprise, the delay between new levels inspired me to explore the game far more than I would if it was a traditional release. I scoped every corner of this glorious assassination sandbox—scouring for wild weapons, perfect disguises, NPC routes, poisonable sushi, and those thrilling, unique, time-limited, one-and-done Elusive Targets.
Even better, a dark sense of humor lies just beneath the surface of the game. Sure, you can go in guns blazing, but many of the more interesting assassination setups drop Agent 47 into hilarious disguises and amusing scenarios. I love Hitman , full stop. Well, no longer. And you know what? Speeding round the vivid open world in a fully customized Lamborghini while DMX barks in the background just feels good —so good, in fact, that I can overlook the fact that FH3 is only available in the Windows Store, barred from your Steam friends list.
My biggest complaint? Hayden: Cyan does world-building better than just about anybody. The puzzles are the challenge, but exploration is the draw. Hayden: Technically Sorcery! Regardless, The Witness is an excellent puzzle game for those who have the patience to meet it on its own terms.
Who knew you could do so much with just a grid and some line puzzles? Worst of all is spending time customizing the perfect soldier, only to have them die on their first outing. Rest in peace, Paul McCartney. He went hard on XCOM 2. Brad: How hard?
